About us

Jane and Victoria met in 2017 when Jane came to work at the University of Canterbury Health Centre. They soon formed a strong friendship over their shared passion for lifestyle medicine.

They started catching up for coffee and chatting more and more about their passion and had this crazy idea of starting a business - what they like to refer to as the seedling of what grew and became the Flourish doctors.

It actually took them about 2 years of dreaming and what if’s, to launching a website and running their first workshop in March 2021.
It has really just grown and grown over the past 2 years.

'We feel it is important to let people know that although it is our passion we do have our struggles.

We both experience imposter syndrome… luckily it tends to be at different times to each other and over different things. A concept we’ve recently defined is the idea of a flourish buddy and we regularly comment that we just could not be doing any of this without the other.’

Applying the lifestyle medicine principles.

‘Another stumbling block is the fact that we both still have extremely busy day jobs and we are also both working Mums so are realistic about how we manage our time. All of this said, it is even more important to us to employ the lifestyle medicine principles to our own lives and Jane and I regularly talk about this and how we are currently actioning our own advice so we can turn up for you authentically and as the best versions of ourselves.’

Jane

Jane initially trained as a surgeon in the U.K. prior to her current career in General Practice.

Her particular interests are in nutritional medicine (and how our dietary choices impact upon our overall wellbeing).

Jane advocates the importance of relaxation in maintaining health and happiness (especially in this era of 24/7 stress). She has attended courses run by internationally recognised leaders in these areas.

Victoria

After completing her medical degree, Victoria served as a doctor in the Royal Navy for many years.

She has always had a keen interest in sports and fitness and has completed a masters degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine.

As well as promoting the benefits of daily movement in all of our lives, she also advocates the need for adequate rest, recovery and sleep in order to optimise our general health and wellbeing.
